Under the heading of Wisconsin Redemption made the point that conservative should recall Walker to save their party from extreme radical positions that most conservative do not support without misgivings. Most Americans want to endorse a political system that works because it is fair. They do not want to cheat to win. They do not want to suppress voters, they do not want to suppress women, black, or Latino opinions, and they do not want big business to control their political voice. However, they want to win election because they believe their philosophy of fiscal and secular government is better than the philosophy of altruistic Democrats. Instead, they have Karl Rove’s “divide and conquer” and “it is not how you play the game; it is winning that counts; to win is everything”. As any little league couch will (should) tell you; no, its not!
Obviously, if the radical element of the Republican Party wins it would result in a perpetual majority, to put it nicely. In vulgar truth, it would be a Republican dictatorship. The only way a dictatorship can develop in a democracy is to destroy democracy its self, and do so with its own tools, which is your right to have a voice in how we are governed. Because I believe most American Conservatives do not want this, I would advise political party strategists on both sides to make this point. We should all fight to reject voter suppression laws, fight to register as many voters as possible, and vote our conscience and not allow big business to lead us around by the nose.
Capitalism, like Democracy, is not only good, it is great but with the proviso that, like politics, it is good and great only if it is—unlike Bain Capital—fair and honest. Vote for conservatives if you must but make sure the candidates you support believe in pragmatic conservatism and that they are not Ayn Rand bullies.
