Obama has done this is spite of domestic rebel rousing. He
has the wisdom to know that John McCain, the neo-cons and other militarists are
dead wrong. We do not have to respond to every shock with a retaliatory strike—if
someone stands up knock them down diplomacy. Many people may consider McCain a
hero because he gave a lot for his country but being a pilot, getting shot
down, and surviving beatings at the hands of the North Vietnamese in a prisoner
of war camp does not make him a military or foreign policy expert. With that in
mind, both he and Obama know torture is wrong.
In one generation, the president has changed the mode of
warfare from great lines of heavy armor with planes overhead bombing cites in
massive World War II style to precision drone strikes. From liar, liar Bagdad
is on fire to terrorist you are dead—precision drone strikes. Yes, there are
collateral damages but in comparison, they are minimal. He has been man enough
to step forward and accepted the responsibility for these strikes, as he
should. He should also step forward and claim credit for disabling Al Qaeda and
other terrorist networks as has happened from these strikes.
I listen to economists take about our economic recession and
intuitively know that in spite of the Republican Congress trying to destroy his
presidency, our economy is improving, not because of them but because of him.
Education is gaining ground in spite of Congress trying to destroy public
schools and fire teachers to save money. All of this compared to a history of
spending the nation to the brink of collapse to cause an economic crisis that
his opponents could take advantage of to destroy Social Security, Health Care
legislation and numerous social programs. He has the wisdom to know that we need to
spend to get out of this crisis just as a business would do if their income
were to fall dramatically from unwise business decisions (tax cuts). It is so
obvious that austerity program is exactly the wrong thing to do but the
Republicans want to do it so they can destroy him and the country be damned.
All they have to do is look across the Atlantic as see what austerity programs
do.
I know we are exporting more oil than we were before his
presidency while still and watching out for the environment. He has done this
as if by magic in spite of the strangle hold big oil has on the legislative
branch. Like foreign policy, economics, and energy there are many other things
that are proceeding in the right direction.
