WE NEED THE GOVERNMENT

Something that really bothers me about my liberal colleagues is their reluctance to challenge the crazy things conservatives say. One is that government is bad in any and every form. The conclusion is let’s get rid of it. Grover Norquist notices and feeds on it with his “pay no taxes” campaign; starve the government and it will go away. If this is so why is Karl Rove trying to establish a permanent Republican majority in the very government he wants to destroy? No one really believes they want to live without a government, it is totally illogical. No one likes anarchy.  

Be specific and name a department of government you think is bad. Name EPA and then try to breath in downtown Las Angles. Name the SEC, then go, and buy a stock. Name the FAA and then try to fly into JFK in New York. I can name a few that were bad for example, Mineral Management Service (MMS) but Obama fixed it after he found out that Rove and company had staffed it with oil industry executives. Or, try Consumers Financial Protection Board (CFPB), which is totally ineffective because the Republican refused approve an appointment to head the agency. They didn’t stop there. They refused to fund the agency. The list goes on ands on.

We want and need the government. We should be willing to pay taxes to support it. Among many other things, I want a U. S. Army and not a disorganized bunch of private contractors and Blackhawk like organizations. But most of all, I want a congress that represents the American People who voted them into office. As an aside, a corporation is not a “people”.

When people say they hate government. Challenge them. Ask them why. What is it they do not like? If they say there are to many regulations then ask them why there are so many crooks and if they are one of them—people at all levels of society are willing to lie, steal and cheat. If they were not there, we would not need regulations. We have to have a pile of papers to fill out because of them. Do not blame the government blame the real crooks. IF BIG BANK HAS A HUGE PILE OF PAPERS TO FILL OUT IT MEANS THE GOVERNMENT KNOW WHO HAS BEEN CHEATING. Don’t blame congressional representative, blame the people who bought them. Don’t blame Fox News, blame the people who listen to Fox News. Don’t blame the Supreme Court for Citizens United, blame the politicians who sit on the Robert’s Court.
