OBAMA'S MESSAGE TO AMERICAN JEWS
The President did himself proudly by giving the speech the 29-minute gave to the Adas Israel Congregation as reported by Washington Post reporter Juliet Eilperin. His message was simple; Israel should live up to the nation's founding ideals. I have repeatedly echoed this message on this blog site. My approach has been to decry the part Republican Party operatives have played in trying to use the conflict between Obama and Netanyahu, Prime Minster of Israel to cause Jewish loyalty to switch from Democrats to their party. This argument has many ramifications, all of the bad. Our State Department is engaged in sensitive negotiations with Iran that Netanyahu does not want. Yes, that is not a typo; he does not want negotiations. It is hard to believe, but he does not want negotiations. He wants all-out war in the Middle East. As always, the protagonists of war invariably see themselves as the winner. In this case, the Prime Minister and his supporting political party is a party based on hate for Palestinians. All indications are that in Netanyahu’s mind; he sees the outcome of such a war as having the Iranians and Palestinians cowering like sniveling dogs at the feet of Israel. That is not the ideal supporters of the founding of a Jewish state embraced nor should it ever be.
Obama even addressed the new and tragic wave of anti-Semitism Netanyahu has stimulated around the world. For some, this may seem bold on his part. However, the President recognizes that Netanyahu and other residents of Israel consider all Jews both religiously faithful and exclusively politically faithful to Israel. Of course, this is not true of by far most Jews. The truth is, that around the world as well as in the United States, Jews are politically loyal to the countries in which they reside while remaining religiously loyal to their faith just as Catholics are politically faithful to their countries and religiously faithful to the Vatican. The Israeli government recognizes this in the form of a branch dedicated to enhancing and strengthening the Diaspora. Also, they have an active propaganda campaign to spread hate for Muslims around the world. We see it in the form of campaigns to ban wearing burkas, prevent building of Mosques, or even pass laws to prevent application of Sharia law. The most insidious is in the form of constant, subtle, single lines buried in newspaper stories or comments on commentary and news broadcasts depicting Muslims as a spreading evil lurking in every shadow. Joe Scarborough is a master at this.
A recent increase in anti-Semitism has occurred. After the atrocities of the Second World War, anti-Semitism was still smoldering but thankfully declining. However, the irresolvable religious conflict over territory in partitioned Palestine raged, which involves a once sided killing spree. The Israeli government is working to make the world accept this as unavoidable. It is a complex situation; however, as with all things religious, once, the Bible enters the picture there is no resolution. The idea that “God says” ends all arguments in the minds of those people. God says the land of Palestine belongs to the Jews; thus, is the end of all arguments. Of course, God always says what the one making the proclamation wants him to say. After that, whatever they do to gain control of that land is OK, in this case killing Palestinians. Obama is outstanding among the world leaders who are saying no; Palestinians have rights. We need sovereign boundaries drawn delineating two states. Boundaries recognized by the entire world; that is not “God’s law” that is civil law, which was his message in his 29-minute speech he gave to the Adas Israel Congregation. I think the people who attended that speech understood, but I wonder if the news media did and such diverse people as Reince Priebus, John McCain, and Sheldon Adelson did.
