OBAMA STRATEGY IN THE MIDDLE EAST

As usual, I listened to Joe Scarborough this morning for my daily dose of “hate Obama” rhetoric. I was not disappointed.

What struck me the most was the number of times Joe and his guests made reference to Obama not having a strategy to beat ISIS or as they often say “a Middle East strategy”. Not only does he have a well-articulated strategy, but also his strategy is working like a charm. They were spouting this nonsense on the very day that United Arab Emirates joined Jordan in the fight against ISIL; Muslim nations fighting Muslim extremists. Our President has outlined his entire strategy in one short sentence, “no U.S. boot on the ground.” We should not and cannot fight their war! When these people found out we are not going to fight their battles, they picked up arms and are fighting for themselves. It took the horrendous torture death of one of their own, but it happened. Obama, unlike McCain and his right wing warmonger followers, has learned from the Vietnam War, the Afghanistan War, Iraqi War, as well as from the overthrow of the Shah in Iran among many, many other failed foreign policy disasters. What the people do not want is another disaster; to fight a war for the oil industry profits is a disaster, and to fight a war for the military industrial complex profits is a disaster.

Obama is leading the world fight in dividing Islam into its elements, the good from the murderous radicals. The real shame is many people cannot think of Muslims in the same terms as they think of Christians; we know and accept that there are good Christians and some downright evil ones. The criticism made of the President’s speech given at the Prayer Breakfast proves that. His critics mentally blocked what he actually said substituting their own distorted version, which conveyed some kind of a “hate Christians”, “hate Obama” message.

His well thought out Middle East strategy is working. This “war” is one of the most complex wars in which we have ever been involved. A Congressional Representative from Wisconsin was a guest of Morning Joe proved that point this morning. He has no idea of what is going on. He wants to give heavy arms to the Kurds; give them what they need; “they are the real fighter of ISIL”. Obama knows that the Kurds are involved in fighting Iraq, Syria and Turkey—for nationhood—for territory, which is why they are fighting ISIL, who are fight for the same territory. The King of Syria is fighting his opposition to retain his throne, both he and his opposition are fighting ISIL. Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy joined bomb, bomb McCain in the call to bomb someone, somewhere, for something.

People seem not to comprehend Obama’s strategy even though he has laid it out for them. As the proof of this, of all things, there is the constant call for the U.S. to put “boots on the ground”. I listen to retired Generals acting as news consultants who say the only way the U.S. can win the fight against ISIL is to put more boots on the ground. Have you ever heard of a General that could not win any war with more troops? I listen to congressional representatives say they will block any legislation that authorizes the President to put boot on the ground, while other say the will oppose any legislation that does not oppose putting boots on the ground. The President clearly says he does not want to put boots on the ground but that he needs congressional authority to put troops on the ground as a contingency; to rescue captured Americas, for example. This confuses the mental giants we have in Congress and the talking heads on TV.
