The news is ringing with information about the sorry state of the Russian economy. What I have been reading is how bank interest rates have been raised form 10.5 percent to 17 percent. What is true is that reporters point out Russian President Putin is a poor leader, etc, etc. They, especially the right wing papers, point out everything but the truth, which is that he challenged the world, especially the United States, with out realizing that he was up against a very intelligent opponent. Tough guy Vladimir Putin felt he had Britain, France, Germany, etc behind him because he controlled the European energy supply. This was true. He even had a, ExxonMobil regional president as a houseguest while he was negotiating an environmental damaging Acetic drilling project at the same time he was trying to grab the Ukraine. Was it Bloomberg who called Putin a real leader compared him to a weak Obama?
While the immediate crisis is the OPEC driven falling oil prices thus exposing the real weakness in Russia, which is the lack of resiliency due to Obama sanctions on their banking systems. The sanctions Republican collective said were too weak unless backed up by bombs and bullets—re-start the war and use our military might to make them shake in their boots. The usual bottom line of misguided Republican international relations; respect out of fear.
I am here to tell them to put the credit for what is happening to the Russian economy where it belongs. Putin wanted to rebuild Russia to its former glory as a territorial and economic power with him at it head. Remember the challenge Obama faced with the Crimea, the Ukraine, Exon, Arctic oil, British bankers, German energy demand, and France’s market for military hardware. The world said he could do nothing; the right wing, as always, said he was weak, etc, etc. etc. I would like to say, give Obama credit, the smartest president we have ever had, for bringing Putin to his knees without firing a shot.
