As awkward as it is to explain, Joe Scarborough gave a discourse, really a lecture, this morning on +MSNBC condemning hate that actually he based on promoted hate. His focus centered on the “assassination” of two police officers in New York City by a black criminal. As Joe pointed out, a ground swell of anger aimed at police following two recent incidents involving police officer who grand juries failed to indict but the black community and their supporters felt were criminal acts. Groups of supporters of the police supported the police officers for doing their duty. Thus, the stage was set for another ridiculous argument pitting the extremes of two social groups against one another, one group hating “all” police and the other hating “all” black people. Rational people, which are really the majority of the population, see that there is a few rogue or corrupt police officers and the others who see an incorrigible element in society who happen to be black. This rational element, as expected, does not want to become involved. In addition, as expected, the news media goes where the excitement is; the extremes get the headlines. The collective effect is that we who spend time watching and listening to the media has to be careful and not let the impression of “everyone” support one or the other position when it is only a small number.
What Joe did this morning that I found so “hateful” was not his verbiage to promote the element supporting the police; however, in the process he clearly stirred up hate for those who fail to see police corruption eliminated. Because Joe is a die-hard Republican, by supporting the “police can do no wrong” stance, he was clearly promoting hate for liberal New York Mayor DeBlasio. Clip after video clip showed politicians, labor leaders, and the like, along with clips of sorrowful family members of the killed officers, etc, which gave support and sympathy for his position. He disparaged the slogans of “hands up don’t shoot”, and “I cannot breathe”. The point is that his approach does not stand, as social proof of the correctness of his position, which clearly was to stir up hate for those who hate the police. He is a smart man and knows two extreme groups hating one another is the problem. Joe Scarborough, while claiming support for both sides, which seems to be cover for his real position, he is a hate monger in disguise.
