Looking at who is responsible for shooting down the Malaysian
plane yesterday, we may not be able to draw a straight or direct line between
Russia and the rocket-shooters but certainly, Putin is responsible. The truth
seems to be that the rocket launch equipment originated in Russia. It seems
likely that the rocket equipment was of Russian manufacture; however, it also
seems most likely that it was in the hands of Ukraine military in the Crimea region
when originally captured by Putin sponsored separatists/rebels. Everyone recognizes
this equipment is sophisticated and to operate it requires training. This
implies that Russians military advisors trained the rebels regardless if they
were Ukrainian inhabitants of Crimea when trained or not; thus, the ultimate
responsibility still rests on Putin’s back.
This does not address the problem from the point of view of
some that ethic Russians are an integral part of the Ukraine rebel forces. The
answer to that question has been answered but has not been assimilated into
American thinking, perhaps, because it would prove Putin is involved, which
feeds into the cold war rhetoric that all but the neo-cons want to avoid. Nor does
it answer the question generated by a long string of expert military advisors
on our never-ending news programs. They were trying to add to the shock and misery
of the passengers by saying “cloud cover” prevented them from seeing the
rockets headed their way; thus, death came as a total surprise—dah! If the
passengers could not see down, then the rebels could not see up, which means
the rocket launchers would have had to have radar guided rockets, which adds a
degree of sophistication well beyond what we know was available in these rocket
systems.
Clearly, the senseless slaughter of 298 people on Malaysian
Airline flight 17 was “made for television”. The question in my mind is when the reporting ends,
commercial and political exploitation begins, and how do we know when that happens?
