Obama fights back and so should we. The more I think about the
president’s speech concerning the successes of health care the more I think
that we should join him in fighting back against all the crazy—often boarding
on the insane—rhetoric coming from the right wing media. I listen to #+Joe
Scarborough in the morning (MSNBC) because, as I am prone to say, “to get my
daily dose of right wing poison” I also read Bob Livingston’s distortions of
the truth as well.

I remember when President Obama said that he is proud of having
people call the Affordable Health Care Act “Obamacare”. He also said that a good
indication of knowing when it is working is when they stop calling it that; that
happened yesterday. What should be more notable is that a number of other similar
victories should be recognized. I might start with his drawing a red line in the Syria
crisis. The objective was to cause President Assad of Syria to destroy his supply
of poison gas. Russia, with Putin’s stranglehold on the United Nations with
their veto power on the Security Council, opposed any such effort. In addition,
there were then and still are strong anti American terrorist groups fighting to
take over the Syria government if Assad were to be deposed. Our president was
clever enough to realize that if he bombed and rid Syria of Assad the situation
would be worse than with him in power.
Obama also knew that European powers would not back him in
any armed aggression in Syria because of Putin’s power over their energy (Germany), arms
market (France) and banking (Great Britain). In context of this diplomatic nightmare,
President Obama offered Syria the opportunity to negotiate the current severe economic
sanctions or face the vague threat of the United States unilaterally bombing
their poison gas facilities. If Syria crossed a “red line” and used their gas,
Assad knew he was taking a serious chance; still, he crossed the "red line" and used the gas. However, he
knew that if the United States either bombed or increased economic sanctions,
he would lose power. Obama moved to increase the sanction and Assad caved and
came to the negotiating table. The first
thing negotiated was that he gives up his poison gas—he did and the "mission was accomplished". He did not have to use a flight suite on the deck of an aircraft carrier to broad cast his message. All the radical right wing heard was what they wanted to hear: bomb, bomb,
bomb. They were so disappointed that Obama
had such a smashing success, they denied the truth and still deny the truth.
Obama is winning the Crimea as well. He will bring Putin to his knees with
out dropping a bomb. In addition, he is putting Russia in its place as well when
it comes to Syria. It is too complex for me to understand but if Obama can
unite the European Union behind him in Crimea he will unite them behind him in
Syria and then be prepared to remove Assad and replace that government a
democracy and not a caliphate in keeping with the sentiments of the Arab spring. That is a victory!
Iran is on the verge of being a great success for Obama as
well; they have stopped purifying uranium and are at the negotiating table over their nuclear arsenal. That is a victory! Obama has
been able to take on the great tragedy of the Palestinian people. The association
of Egypt, Iran, and Iraq with that tragedy is yet to unfold but with Israeli’s Netanyahu’s
cries of despair, it sound like Obama is the first president that is making
great progress toward middle east peace; even more that Jimmy Carter.
All of these foreign policy successes are driving the neo
cons crazy. At home, many other successes are driving the Republicans crazy. It
is true, the Obamacare success is tremendous and left Scarborough with his
mouth open, but there are many others. The ACA success is equivalent to Social Security of FDR’s new deal of 1935 and is so great and long lasting that it may
overshadow his many other domestic and foreign successes. The
right wing is struggling and attacking every thing they can find, unfortunately
the can find nothing so they are making things up to attack.
They attacked Benghazi. Terrorists provoked by a right wing inspired “hate Muslims”
film attacked our Benghazi mission and four American died—just as attacks were taking
place across the entire Muslim world. The radical right wing political machine
mounted an attacked against “Obama’s “Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for
not responding to a phone call for help, for not protecting our embassies, for not being able to predict the embassy would be attacked, etc. The truth is that there
was never a call to Clinton; the call was to the African Command that the State
Department had been warned such a call for assistance might come but they did
not respond; in other words, it was the Pentagon that failed (a general in that
command was silently fired for alcoholism). Investigation revealed Benghazi was not
an embassy but a supposedly clandestine CIA outpost that did not want to be outed. Also, it came to light
that the most vocal senators criticizing Clinton were the ones that cut State Department funding
intended for protecting state department outposts.
There was nothing to the charges of failure in Benghazi.
They were fabricated. That means they were right wing lies; worse of all they
had a despicable anti-American objective as shown by there calling the State Department
Obama’s State Department. In addition, it was obvious that the right wing backed “hate Muslim” film that inspired the terrorist, which makes a full circle right back to the Obama attackers.
The so-called IRS scandal backfired as well. Dirt ball Karl Rove found
a glitch in the IRS law that allowed him to cheat on paying taxes on money he
collected from big money donors. The 504c4 laws relate to charitable
organizations. The government does not tax money collected for charitable
purposes. During the Eisenhower administration, a low-level administrator
changed the word ‘exclusive’ was change to ‘primarily’. Lawrence
O’Donnell, an ex capital hill staffer and now MSNBC newscaster discovered the
change and broadcast the information on his show. Instead of the discovery
shaming them as it would descent people, the government hating right wing did
what Republican’s always do, they attacked. Rove and his colleagues immediately
claimed the IRS gave liberal political organizations preference for tax-exempt
status; investigation easily proved that was not true.
When are the American
people going to get tired of campaigns built on hate and not reason? My guess
is that they will do that when they realize just how great this president is.
