Gentile, compromising #Mica Brzezinski, co-host on #Morning
Joe (MSNBC) made a remark this morning that mad me angry. There is no doubt
that #Joe Scarborough dominates her in a bullying way just as there is no doubt
she does not see it that way—she loves her job. Usually, she sees both sides of
every argument, which gives barracuda Joe a distinct advantage. This morning
was no different. The news being comment on was out of Washington; the Senate blocked
the equal pay legislation by a vote of 53 in support and to 44 votes against it.
Yes, that was 53 votes majority for
the bill and 44 against, and it failed.
It needed 60 votes to go forward. Mica had been a very vocal advocate in
support of the bill for a long time, more so than for most legislation;
therefore, I expected at least a flash of anger or a critical remark from her. Instead, what Mica said was, “it was a failure
on both sides.” OMG

No Mica, it was not a failure on both sides; it was a failure
that you can be put squarely on the back of Republicans. How many times do we, as
liberals, have to be kicked in the face by the #GOP before we stop sharing the blaming with them for hurting the American
working class? Angus King, an Independent, joined only seven democrats to vote
against the bill. Let me point out that 100% of Republicans voted against it. Public
polling favored passage. Public polling by #Pew Research Center indicated 72%
of women and 61% of men said, “this country needs to continue making changes to
give men and women equality in the workplace.” This is a clear indication that
the Republicans do not represent the people; they represent industry, the lobbyist
in Washington D.C.. As one my frequent critic often says, “all politicians are
dishonest”. In a democracy, what is dishonest is not to represent the people
who voted for you; it is malfeasance in office; and it is criminal. I say to my
critics and to @Mica Brzezinski, Pew polling has shown on issues after issue
that Republican politicians do not represent the America People: subsidies to
oil companies, gun control legislation, voters rights, taxing the rich, and now
women’s rights.
What +Pew Research Foundation should ask on a poll is how
many Republicans know how the people they elect vote or ask questions to find
out the correlation between how their representatives vote and how they as
individuals would vote. We laugh and
make belittling jokes about people in foreign countries where 120 % of the vote
is for the person in power, but are we any better? We have senators that
cosponsor bills the then they vote against the bill—52 co-sponsors for the
equal pay bill and seven of the 52 voted against moving it forward. These seven
people will go home and say the co-sponsored the bill in front of women’s
groups but CEO’s know where to send the campaign checks. Republicans, and Mica,
will say the legislation was defected by a bipartisan vote; no, it wasn’t! It
was defeated by Republicans who voted against the wishes of 61% of men and 72%
of women.
