My cool talking friend #Joe Scarborough did it again this
morning on MSNBC; he uses the back door
to attack his enemy’s strengths; thus, he follows the Karl Rove dogma. He provoked a sense of patriotism by saying
the “United States” needs “real” leadership to counter #Putin’s moves in the #Ukraine.
With a straight face, he followed up this remark by saying “we” need to align
our European allies’ behinds us, “we” need to institute strong economic sanctions,
and “we” should negotiate from a position of strength. His use of the editorial
“we” means that we (all conservatives) would stand united against Putin as Americans if we had proper
leadership. To make his point he said #G. H. W. Bush would have sent a tough diplomat
like #James Baker to Europe to negotiate; thus, intentionally insulted #Secretary
of State Kerry. Of course he was attacking #Obama and not just #Kerry who have not
only done all of these things and more and have done them in exemplary fashion. For example, Obama is holding his finger on an economic trigger that he can pull to launch
additional and escalating sanctions.

Joe’s performance reminded me of #Redd Foxx, the comedian,
when his wife found him in bed with another woman; “Are you going to believe me
or your lying eyes?” The sad thing is
that there seems to be a number of people who don’t believe their own eyes because
of people like Joe Scarborough. Joe presents himself as a well-mannered, well-spoken,
neatly dressed reasonable economic conservative who sincerely believes in small
government. When he attacks President Obama as he did this morning, people let
there guard down and believe his innuendos with out challenge.
It isn’t just the President he is attacking in this way. For
those of us who watch "this southern gentleman" with some regularity, we know he lives in a glorified
“South. He takes pride in recognizing Southern values without every defining on
what issues those values apply. He recognizes and vigorously defends states-rights,
without ever saying where he thinks those rights should be exercised or how those rights equate with equality; he would never
say he agrees with voter suppression, on the other hand, he supports use of
voter ID in the South as being in keeping with nation wide American values;
thus the height of patriotism. To display the Flag of the Confederacy is to
recall history and not used symbols of something evil and “gone with the wind”
following the war of “northern aggression”, most of us know as the Civil War.
Joe is Joe; It is a free country and he has every right to
say what he believes but we have every right not to believe him because there
is much he implies that should not be believed. He is clever and not a nut case like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, or
Bob Livingston who target those already hopelessly lost in a mass of lies. His “tricky”
approach may sway reasonable people, which makes him an asset to conservatives
but that makes him dangerous to people with liberals values, especially those
who know Obama is the greatest president we have ever had judging from his handling of Putin without dropping bombs. I should have mentioned that Joe mentioned under his breath the he also
does not like dropping bombs.
