An apology by Darrell Issa is not enough. It is time the
House of Representatives start cleaning up their act, at minimum, by removing him
from his committee leadership. Issa’s handling of Rep. Cummings was wrong and he
should apologize but the incident points at something much more serious; it relates
to his “use the power of a government committee” in a malicious and personal way.
He is not using his position to govern; he is using it unethically—for a witch-hunt—and
violated rules of conduct in doing it; not just once but repeatedly. For
example, the committee investigated the IRS 501(C) 4 situation and knows exactly
what happened and why; there was no wrong-doing. They have investigated Benghazi
and know what happened and why; the Secretary of State did no wrong. The
committee has not made their final reports as they should have to end the cases
but are dragging them out apparently for publicity. People are entitled to their
opinion but to use tactics reminiscent of Senator Joseph McCarthy’s Un-American
Activities Committee is wrong.
