ORGANIZE FOR ACTION; A MISSED OPPORTUNITY

As Democrats, we should always be looking for ways to use our computers to influence public opinion. I am too old to be running around knocking on doors or passing out literature, in fact I am too old to drive therefore can not attend meetings, but I still want to support Democratic policy. With that in mind, I routinely post blogs on my web site that are supportive of the President’s policy and are critical of our Republican adversaries. I am proud to boast that there are some 2,000 articles stored at my URL.

However, having said that, there seems to be a great opportunity for bloggers like me to expand our support. I often receive via internet Facebook page comments and advertisements that right wing political operatives have designed as traps. For example, they ask questions, “Should Obama be impeached?” or make statements such as “Obamacare is not working; if you agree click”. I feel, a careful handling of these hurtful advertisements can nullify them, but you have to be careful. Avoid clicking on those that record every click as a “like”. They will reflexively publish your response as if you are a supporter. Of course, these web sits are designed to record the number of “clicks” only as likes for their cause no matter what that number is because there is no counter balance. My suggestion is, look for those that have a provision for comments, especially those that publish the comments. My favorite response to something like “Obamacare is not working” is to comment, “Yes it is!” or, “It is working beautifully!” On those such as impeach Obama I usually respond, “He is our greatest President, ever!”

Think about it. By commenting on their ad, you have an opportunity to respond right in the face of the persons reading these advertisement at the most effective time; that is when they are reading it. If the reader agrees with your comment, you have done good or at least you have done no harm; however, if they do not agree, you tell them they are wrong. You can’t respond in this way to TV ads, to lawn signs, or newspaper and magazine: the internet is giving you a wonderful opportunity even if you are home bound.
