REPUBLICAN UNWELCOME SURPRISE FOR NORTH CAROLINA

A common aphorism is that “hind sight is 20/20”. The thing about a cliché is that it is so true everyone uses it, which turns it into a tired old trope. So what do you do when it is not true when it should be? The #Republican Party platform includes a number of “planks”, for example, destroy the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Even in the Republican presidential candidate debates, seven candidates stood before the American people indicated if elected they would close the #EPA. Do not act surprised by coal ash spills, chemical spills, or the coming fracking contamination of your water supply. When #Pat McCrory was candidate for governor I wrote a number of articles warning the people of North Carolina that they vote for him they cannot get their vote back.

At the time, the environment was of special concern to me because of McCrory’s almost life long association with #Duke and Progressive energy that were in the process of merging at the time. Even if he were a Democrat, the people of North Carolina should have been concerned about the environment, especially because he is a Republican sworn to support his party’s platform, which made him an even more troublesome prospect as governor. News headlines tell us that we have coal-ash waste sights spills contaminating our waterways; even Republicans cannot drink the water. Perhaps you didn’t notice that there are environmental protection laws that were not enforced.

In addition, #Duke Energy, now a monopoly, will force their customers, and not the shareholders, pay for the clean up; the cost comes out of the customers pocket and not the company profits. This proposal is on top of a 17% rate increase for electricity approved by a state regulatory commission now controlled by McCrory appointees. Did I mention “his” company lowered energy rates for industries to attract “job” to the state—the working people of the state are paying for police and fire protection and filling potholes in the streets the industries use for their goods and services.

Is there anything in the above paragraphs that McCrory has done that is a surprise? Now that things have turned bad you may claim you ignore politics; thus the responsibility for all the bad things, but you along with the rest of us are also are now “paying the cost” of your vote, higher taxes, higher energy costs, energy company monopoly, ruined environment, just to name a few. Surprise! These are the very things the Republican platform said they would do it elected. Of course, that is not what the individual politicians said they would do on the campaign trail. If they had told the truth, you would not elect them. Now is the time to remind you that we have a Republican running against incumbent Democratic #Kay Hagan for State Senator. His name is #Tom Tillis. He is a state Republican leader who is responsible for much of the legislation enabling McCrory to do what he has done, which by association makes him a bad man. I do not care what he says he is going to do for the state if we elect him; I know what he will do. Look at Republican #Senator Burr’s voting record—zero for the working people. If you vote for Tillis, you are voting against your own interest unless you are a billionaire. To prove this to yourself, use your hindsight.
