OUT OF CONTROL CORPORATIONS
The Keystone Pipeline XL controversy is a very confusing thing
to understand. I see pictures on TV of a huge pipeline running toward the horizon
at the same time I hear the words “proposed pipe line”. The pipeline runs from Canada
to a place called Cushing, Oklahoma. From there, the proposed is to extend the
pipe to the Gulf of Mexico. In addition, there is a proposal to duplicate and
already existing pipeline. What I find remarkable is that these existing pipelines
were build without controversy and will continue to be built regard less of
what you say, think, or believe. Corporations are in charge and you have no way
to fight back.
Elected representatives created the United States Department
of Commerce to deal with the interaction of corporate America with the people
based on a 1901 proposal made my Teddy Roosevelt. His objective was to create a comprehensive and far-reaching scheme to
oversee our business interests. Corporate greed was running out of control
then and is happening again 110 years later.
Corporations control in
order to increase federal regulation on businesses requires the collection of a
massive amount of detailed economic information. The relatively recent Enron
debacle proved that it was not possible for the government to do this on such massive
companies as the energy companies, insurance companies, and financial companies.
Of course, corporations objected to “government interference” in what they
consider their private business. Thus, they work through elected representatives
to dismantle the Department of Commerce by defunding regulation, through the advice
and consent clause in the constitution; they delay appointment of leaders for
that department, and they pass laws to restrict its operation, etc. A near
fatal blow to the Department of Commerce was made by the corrupt Supreme Court
of the Untied States when they made the now infamous  “Citizens United Decision”, essential giving  corporations the power  over politicians; hence, control  over corporate excesses, which brings us back
to where Roosevelt started; once again corporations
are running amuck.
If the citizens of the country had the power to control
corporations, do you think there would have been an Enron engineered recall of
California Governor Gray Davis? What do you think would have happened to BP after
the gulf oil spill? What would be the price of gasoline? More to the point, do
you think there would have been oil pipe lines carrying Canadian tar sands oil
across 2,000 miles of agricultural lands to be refined in Texas and the final
product shipped to China  leaving all the
air pollution the United States and placing the money in the Cayman island. Did
I mention that “their” Congress approved paying taxpayers’ dollars to oil companies
as a subsidy even though 80% of Americans did not want that to happen?
By the way, the elected representatives “Americans” voted
into office, that is the politicians who voted for the oil subsidies, are the very
ones that more importantly oppose gay marriage, or hate abortion, or prove
their worth by watching Duck Dynasty, or will not let Obama take your gun, or will
let him lock you in a FEMA controlled concentration camp; the stuff of very
expensive TV and radio ads I hear ten time a day.

wwelllllllllllllllllllllll ... Let's see here. Unchecked Corporate greed. Check. Corrupt Political System. Check. Citizens Without Control. Check. So how did we come by this LOWLY state? Do you really think it is entirely the fault of the R's? Wow, that's a stretch. Myself, I'd like to relieve myself on any politician's pant leg without regard to D or R. Nop, not particular in this because they are ALL selling out the American public for their own personal gain. If either you or Diogenes of Sinope ever encounter an honest one, please let me know.
ReplyDelete“Do you really think it is entirely the fault of the R's?” Yes I do!
DeleteI do not think you can possible defend the idea that Democrats as a “Political Party” are associated with corporate greed in any way. I hope you do not think that the Koch brothers are funding Democratic candidates; if you think so, can you name one—just one. Are the Tea Party nuts Democrats or Republicans? Has the House of representatives passed zero job bills while they are screaming we need jobs? Is that being disingenuous? Point to one thing—one single thing—that indicates Democrats are contributing to corporate greed.

Let’s start with corrupt politicians; When I said party I meant party and not people who claim to be in one party or another. I often site issues that have high popular support like 80% and fail to pass congress because of corporate lobbyists: gun control, healthcare, no Keystone Pipeline, tax the rich, food stamps, unemployment insurance. Look at the votes. Every one of them have a total Republican support and just enough Democrats to cause the legislation to fail; those democrats have been bought and paid for by corporate money. Crooked Democrats; no question about it but what about every elected Republican in Washington—100% against what the people want. That my friend, that is massive or wholesale corruption.
DeleteCiting Fox news about Bill Clinton comments is like asking James Dimon (JPMorgan) if he is honest. You probably should not ask a question when you know the answer will not be honest
Funny. Ok, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/05/clinton-corporate-tax-rate_n_890166.html if that same report but different messenger makes any difference. I intentionally chose Fox 'cause I was pretty sure it would get your attention... yup, it did. So, I had my fun and now it's your turn to show me one politician---one single politician---that is honest... the politics of God aside (Jesus was honest). Isn't there a Bible verse, "Yea verily, all politicians will all be servants in Hell."
ReplyDeleteOK You got me. Fox news caught my attention.
Delete“. . . show me one politician---one single politician---that is honest . . .”
Let’s try Walter Mondale of Minnesota, a name that comes to mind because of what happened to him at the hands of a dishonest Republican: incumbent Reagan carried 49 of the 50 states. Walter Mondale said we had to raise taxes; that killed him. Reagan said he would cut taxes; that elected him. What did he do; he raised taxes six times.
I would call your attention to how many elected people we have in the United States and include city council members, mayors, county officials, state legislature, and federal legislature. Contrast this with the number of corruption convictions for both R’s and D’s across the nation. It is almost like the numbers of conviction of people who committed voter fraud. You have the real numbers and then you have the Republican.
I assume, you are not talking about that, rather, you are talking about politicians who have sold their vote to corporations; almost every Republican as the examples of issues I cited proves. The ones who vote against the wishes of the people they represent unless you are prepared to admit that Republicans represent corporations and not the people.
Ok, let me try to open a door. Check a June 11, 1984 NY Times article "Now on a weeklong vacation with his family at the beachfront estate of Herbert Allen Jr....
ReplyDeleteSo what? Well, first look at who his financial benefactor was. Herbert "Herb" Allen controls reticent investment banking house Allen & Co. and is the largest known individual owner of Coke stock, holding more than 12 million shares. Net worth, $2.4 Billion. Hummmm, Fritz and Herb... nice and $cozy$. And where was this beach front estate? Southampton, an exclusive resort located on Long Island's South Fork. $Nice$.
But what does this have with your nomination for Jesus Christ of politicians? Well sample the money flow. The reference here is a book named "Masters of Paradise: Organized Crime and the Internal Revenue Service in The Bahamas" Daniel Keith Ludwig owned the largest shipping fleet in the world. He needed a port for his fleet of Union Oil and Maruzen Oil Co. oil tankers and desired to avoid harbor costs for fueling. This port was built in Freeport
where it was arranged that the Bahamas would not charge excise, export, or stamp taxes on goods passing through this port. This corruption of a sovereign nation for profit was even much grander than that... more than can be explained here. But Ludwig's partners didn't have the $5.6 Million to finance the construction, so a new partner and the cash was secured from Charles Allen (Herb's daddy) who then owned 25% of the port and its pending cash flow.
So these are the historical shadows in which Mondale and his family basked in the luxury of their palatial estate. Sounds like a nice picturesque bunch of altruistic Democrats. I wonder if Herb and Fritz shared some Havanas. I can't imagine the glow on Herb at having purchased such fine political power in the U.S.
I read you comment with great interest but fail to see how his association with Herbert Allen, Jr. reflects badly on Walter Mondale. If his association with Allen reflects badly on him than perhaps, his association with his father would reflect positively on him, you know that Mondale’s father was a Minister.

ReplyDeleteHey, look at today's headlines. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/02/12/jury-reaches-verdict-in-ex-new-orleans-mayor-nagin-bribery-case/ Another one of those corrupt D's.
ReplyDeleteJohn: I will trade you one crooked small city Democratic mayor for a State Governor given the equality of both having a hurricane.
DeleteSure, we can do such trading since both Ds and Rs are corrupted.
