NEW YORK STATE TAX SCAM

You want to know what is wrong with America. On your Google search engine, type in the words “Start up-NY.com”. The glaring headlines cry out at you; No business, corporate, state or local taxes, sales and property taxes or franchise fees.

At one time in my life, I was a member of the city planning commission in Coon Rapids Minnesota—a city of 36,000 people struggling to survive. The good people in ours and neighboring suburbs had a fundraising drive to establish a much needed hospital. Everyone worked toward that end; from little cake sales to a huge gift of farm land as a building site; of course the commission enthusiastically approved everything that was put before us. Even the local community clubs raised money to furnish rooms in the hospital. A hospital corporation stepped in and agreed to do the building and management of the facility. It was going to be a beautiful four-story building. The building was built.

The city fire chief appear before the planning commission; his department did not have a ladder truck to service such a building, which was two stories taller than any other building in town. I don’t think most people know how expensive a fire truck is; especially a ladder truck. We bought he truck. The city manager and mayor went through tax code revisions etc to pay for that truck. We had no alternative; taxes were raised in our city for a facility that serviced the entire region, which upset the town’s people. The next thing to happen was that the fire chief appeared before the planning commission; the existing fire station was not large enough to house our new expensive fire truck; they needed to double the size of the existing building; back to the people for more tax money.

I remember having one of my children in that hospital and seeing the bronze plaque on the door of his room say the Junior Chamber of Commerce furnished the room. What came next was the bill for my son’s stay that room; outlandish. I felt betrayed.

I look at that New Your State ad saying they have established tax free zones to encourage businesses to come to their state. Who is going to pay for the fire trucks? Who is going to profit from the tax-free status? Do I even have to ask? Sure, they create jobs and pay wages but a big part of those al ready low wages go to support the infrastructure used by the companies. Big business is playing the people of New York for a sucker not to mention the districts where the companies came from.
