This morning on #Morning Joe (MSNBC), #Joe Scarborough pointed
out that “the American public is weak minded”. I am here to tell you there is
no one more weak mined than he is as he immediately proceeded to show by asking
the question, “Where does the $10.10 come from?” Of course, he was talking about
#President Obama’s minimum wage proposal. Although it seems trite to have to
answer Joe’s question, I will: It comes
from the excessive profits and outlandishly high executive compensation! Couple
this thought with Joe’s clarion call for deregulation of businesses—hardily a Morning
Joe show goes by that he is not trumpeting the Republican mantra: deregulate,
deregulate, deregulate. It is the road to disaster and everyone should know
that after the Reagan and Bush administrations. If that is not enough, go back
to Herbert Hoover. If the is not far enough go back to McKinley; it is inborn Republican
philosophy.

Corporate boards of
directors, that set the level of executive compensation and shareholder profits,
both of which are clearly out of control, are unregulated. Executive compensation,
even for a failing company, is in the million of dollars and the stock market
is at an all time high while wages are stagnant. What more proof do you need?
Everyone knows corporate profits and excessive executive compensation
are why we have this socially devastating income disparity. Boards of directors
collective say what they are doing is “rewarding success”, which means they are
in a positive feedback spiral; the imbalance can only get worse. As long as we have
high paid corporate lobbyists and the diabolical “Citizen United Decision”, we
will not be able to use the power to tax to control greed; thus, there is no
counter measure to this craziness. The disenfranchised workers of America and the
president are standing alone against unfettered greed.
President Obama should
have told the truth last night by turning around at the podium during last
night’s State of the Union Speech and pointing at John Boehner while saying; there
is the leader of the “party of greed” that
is causing America’s greatest economic problem. For strong-minded
Americans, it is the only rational conclusion possible; however, Obama stood,
like the gentleman he is, and said with dignity that he is going to do
everything he possible can as chief executive to compensate for Republican malfeasance
in office. I stand with him.
