INCOME DISPARITY SOLUTION

A common theme in political commentary references the growing income disparity. I am in the process of reading Goodwin’s book, The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism and find that the very same economic situation that happened in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s has happened again. Roosevelt stopped the decadence and we can too. Corporations controlled government and exercise their ill-gotten power to satisfy their insatiable greed. They created a plutocracy that was feeding on its self, creating what appeared to be a never-ending downward spiral for the working class: increased worker productivity resulting in decreasing wages but increased profits.

The opportunity for advancement is limited to those who were advanced, which is turning, and some would say, has turned this great land of opportunity into a slave-master type wasteland of forbidden opportunity for the masses. We all see MBA degrees given for those who are taught how to cheat and steal, we see college tuition increased beyond reason because corporate tax cuts have decreased state funding for our universities, and we see our universities taken over by industries to do their research at tax-payers’ expense. We see government taken over by moneyed interests with out even a modicum of fairness or moral concern for workers. We all see this every day; we see it on TV, we read in newspapers and magazines, we live it.

Ask yourself the simple question, “Is income disparity real or something imagined?” There can only be one answer; it is not only real but is very real.

Now ask yourself, “Why do we have income disparity?” The obvious answer is that corporations have corrupted the political environment; we all know that. The Supreme Court’s decision was intentionally made to corrupt the political system and accelerate political corruption. Corporations are not “people” and everyone knows that: you know that and I know that. This leaves the question, “Is our political system corrupt?” We all know the answer to that. Even a well-intentioned executive, President Barrack Obama, has had his hands tied by the rampant corporate corruption of the congress. It is no longer our congress, it is the corporation congress.

Moving on to the political parties, we all know which of the two supports corporations; it is Republicans. We also know that Republicans accuse Democrats of being anti big business with such phrase as it is not a crime to succeed, we should reward and not punish success, and big corporations are job creators. These statements are true but have been used by corrupt politicians to lower tax on corporations; thus, force an increase in taxes on the low paid working class; thus, advance income disparity. The corporate message to the working class is you can have your public schools and welfare if you want but you have to pay for it out of your meager wages not us out of our huge profits.

So here is the situation; everyone knows we have income disparity, everyone knows there is decreased opportunity in America, we all know that corporations have corrupted our politicians to the point that “it is legal” to corrupt a politician (Citizen Untied Decision), we know that the Republican Party, by supporting corporations, supports this corruption. Republicans squirm and scream, no, no, no; it is both parties. No, it is not! Politician from both parties are corrupted but Democrats do not the ones support corporations that advancing the money to do the corrupting. If you are a Republican, write a signed comment to this post telling the world and me that you want to see the Supreme Court’s Citizens United Decision overturned, that you believe in unions so that corporations treat workers fairly, and that you are willing to pay taxes to support the government. Perhaps you have thought long and hard about this and have decided that there is no such thing as income disparity or if there is, you blame the Democrats; therefore, there is no problem. Better yet, be a Teddy Roosevelt and join Obama and fight to allow corporations to make money but usurp their rights to corrupt our business and political climate—in other words be a progressive and not be stupid and vote for your own demise.
