Corporate
corruption of state government can never become clearer then it is right now in
North Carolina. Every political science teacher in every high school and
college could use it as an example. According to Emily Atkin in a Jan. 16th
article written for Climate Progress, Fracking
Chemicals in North Carolina Will Remain Secret, Industry-Funded Commission Rules.
In the article she says the state legislature will, “have the final gavel over fracking disclosure standards in the future”.
The quote is hers but the emphasis is mine. She then notes that the state
legislature protects the companies from “disclosing
their chemical concoctions until then . . .” Of course, everyone knows because
it is the future, it never comes.
Philip Berger,
Thom Tillis, and Gov. Pat McCrory appointed every one of the 15-member
commission, like all government commissions in North Carolina. Tillis received $46,700,
and Thom Tillis who received $43,650 from “fracking interests.” For a Republican
Governor to appoint a commission with a simple Republican major is usual;
however, what is unusual is that there are no Democrats on the commission, not
one. In the eyes of a Republican, this is fair governance. Once you elect one
of them to office and give appointment power that is like electing an absolute
dictator. I know my Republican friends will be rallied up by that statement but
a long life of observations make me believe it is accurate; Democratic governments
appoint commissions but always, without exception, have a minority—they at
least try to appear fair. Our founding fathers have organized the Federal government
(House of Representatives and Senate) to prevent this from happening.
