DEMOCRATS SHOULD STOP BEING STUPID

Our county’s values are being blown away in the wind. In times gone by in our agricultural community, farmers winnowed wheat. They would thrash the heads of the wheat and collect the grain. On a windy day, the farmer would throw the wheat up into the air, the wind would blow away all the chaff, and the heavier wheat would fall back into the container.

Democrats and Republicans agree on sweeping legislation. For example, the recent sequestration agreement that Government spending cut equally both social welfare and the Pentagon and corporate welfare. Neither party would agree to such deep cuts so they passed legislation saying that the agreement would come into being on a certain date but only if they could not agree on some sort of compromise. The Democrats assumed Republicans would never allow such deep cuts in Pentagon and corporate welfare spending and the Republicans “knew” that Democrats would never allow such deep cuts in social welfare spending. The Democrats thought wrong. Under the control of the radical Tea Party, House Republican purposely refused to compromise so that the dated agreement would go into effect. Social welfare programs were drastically cut and so were corporate welfare and the Pentagon spending. However, it was a big win for Republicans because of “winnowing”.  Republicans took advantage of their majority in the House of Representatives by passing legislation to refund the Pentagon piece meal but did not pass legislation to refund welfare cuts the same way. The political wind blew away Pentagon cuts and reinstated corporate welfare while social welfare—chaff to Republicans—the house majority blew away piece by piece. Democrats lost and Republicans won.

Then came the fiscal cliff and the government shut down. Neither the Republican nor the Democrats would agree to shut down the government; it was so terrible it was unthinkable; and it was not going to happen. Suddenly, the Republicans gave birth to the “destroy Obamacare at any cost” movement for the express purpose of causing a government shut down.  Now we find the House of Representatives using the winnowing process by refunding the bits and pieces of government they want and not refunding social welfare programs. The Tea Party is winning big time. They are hurting millions of people.

The Tea party won the “no more taxes” battles because people by appealing to everyone’s desire to keep the money they earned—I earned it so I should be able to keep it. We no longer have enough money to support our government and there are no plans to increase taxes. They won the anti union battle by selling the American people on the idea that the Unions protected lazy workers or protecting incompetent teachers, etc. Workers have no more rights and the laws prevent them from regaining power. The Tea party is winning the voter suppression battle because everyone believes poor people, black people, Latinos, etc  cheat the polling place; they believe voter fraud is rampant when there is so little it almost does not exist. The pole who should vote to restore democracy no longer has the vote.  Now they are winning the anti welfare battle Ronald Reagan started with his welfare queen rhetoric—everyone hates welfare cheaters. I does not make any difference that there are almost no welfare cheater because everyone believes all people on welfare are cheaters. We oppose aid to the poor because people on welfare are all lazy and refuse to get up off the sidewalks they sleep on and go to Harvard; go to work.

When you add these wins up, the Tea party is destroying democracy, as we know it. They are turning our country into a third world plutocracy; you may not be heartless, we may not be rich, and we may not want that to happen but that is what they are doing and they are doing it with our help! Only you can stop it but first we have to stop being stupid.
