The political media classifies Senator Susan Collins of
Maine as a moderate Republican. She and a group of other Senators advanced a “deal”
labeled as a bipartisan compromise. The deal included removal of the Medical Devise
Tax in Obamacare in exchange for reopening the government. The media praised
her and hailed proposal as a “reasonable” compromise. It was not. What twist in
Republican logic would make Democrats think it was appealing to cut out billons
of dollars in tax revenue intended to pay some of the cost for Affordable
Health Care (ACA). Their major complaint about the ACA is that it is costing
the Taxpayers money. They wanted us to believe that giving big business another
tax break—more corporate welfare—would make thing better. The reason they created
the crisis in the first place was to destroy as much of Obamacare as they
could. Collin’s compromise was not a compromise at all; it was all one sided. The
sad part is that some short sighted Democrats joined her in attempting to do
just that.
The problem with our Government is that we want it to do everything
without collecting enough tax money to do anything. The reason this is the case
is Republican refusal to increase taxes to pay for what they want. Giving corporations
a free ride is corporate welfare; it is spending money tax dollars to support
their profits. Nice try Senator Collins but you were caught with your hand in
the cookie jar. What the media should do is classify you as a moderate version
of Ted Cruz; keeping in mind that a person half way between Ted Crux and a
center of the political Republican spectrum is still a radical.
