I just read a post in a Google discussion group Educations
Revolution. Relating his experience of riding in a police patrol car, the
writer decried the big brother aspect of our ever-growing society; someone is watching
everything you do, know everywhere you go, everyone you talk to and essentially
everything you say. In a city of millions of people, this seems remarkable. It
was almost as if he was wishing for a more simple life, such as one lived in a
small village or in a primitive tribe. Some, in fact most, of my readers never
have had the experience of living in such a village. My point is that everyone
in the village knows a lot more about you then they ever could know about you in
a big city. They know all of this without electronic eavesdropping and hidden security
camera surveillance. There is a great benefit of having this knowledge. Hillary
Clinton explained the benefits beautifully in her book, It Takes a Village. If we know everything about everyone it gives
us a great vantage point. We can chose who to be friends with, who to marry,
who to shun or hate, who to emulate, and how we want our children to be
educated, but mot important, who we want to educate our children. We can turn
them out onto the streets to be educated or we can support with tax dollars and
pay careful attention to what teachers are teaching in our schools; can you believe
that people actually deny science and think anytime there is a problem some God
will take care of it.
