United States Congress and the America people in a shameful
act put Vladimir Putin front and center on the worlds stage. In effect, they
have helped to reestablish Syria’s ally, Russia, as a credible world player
tipping the game in favor of Syria. Congress stabs Obama in the back for doing
the right thing. After demanding that Obama come to Congress, Senators are
saying that he should never have come to them; he should have bombed Syria. Senator
Bob Corker (R-TN) interview this morning by Chuck Todd is a case in point. Obama
is a big boy; morally and in diplomatic skill, he is so far above them yet they
seem to feel no shame in what they say or do.
Obama foreign policy
has as a clear objective, which is to prevent Syria president al Assad from committing
genocide. It also involves keeping al Assad in power, in
an unstable balance, to prevent radical
Islamic factions from reestablishing a caliphate in Syria to give the
opposition time to coalesce into an identifiable pro-democratic majority—not
the one McCain and Graham identified on their over night visit.
The source of the evil in the Middle East is caliphate governments,
who want to dominate Syria. The much-heralded “Arab Spring” is all about
getting rid of these kinds of governments across the region and replacing them
with democracies. The irony is that it is the people and not the United States
who is “overthrowing” these “God” governments. The people are demanding a say
in how they are ruled. It is not McCain or the neo-cons they want as rulers—a coalition provisional administrator such
as L. Paul Bremer and certainly not a death squad John Negroponte as a dictatorial Ambassador. As we know from
what is happening in Egypt, it is not an easy transition to make.
A history of government overthrows plagues our past. Previous
presidents: Truman-Korea; Johnson-Vietnam; and Bush-Iraq have poisoned the credibility
of our current and future presidents. Yet, the fact remains that the people in this
country believe we, as the strongest nation in the world, must stand as a moral
paragon of fairness, equality, honesty, and goodness; President Barrack Obama
stands with the people. Now he is faced with standing shoulder to shoulder with
a former KGB Officer, a man accused of assassinations and clandestine operations,
as a key player in extremely delicate diplomatic negotiations. He is faced with
trying to negotiate a United Nations treaty with a ruthless dictator, who represents a small religious
sect involve in regional political turmoil knowing that the Republican party
accuses the UN of usurping our sovereignty. He has to face radical progressives
such as +Chris Hayes and +Rachel Maddow for not working fast enough—not using
some kind of magic they find so easy to pull out of the thin air. As a
progressive, our president will refrain as much as is possible from using brute
force, as some would like him to do; however, I feel he will overcome even if
on the other side of the moon walk he ends up with a peaked nose and wavy gray
hair.
