We can now change the expression so hated in the black
community from stop and friske, to stop, friske and shoot. Imagine you are sauntering down a dark street
and someone stops you and starts to search your pockets. You object, which
gives your assailant the right to shoot you. That is exactly what happened to
Trayvon Martin. Now embellish the story with details. George Zimmerman was not
in uniform. He was without a badge or any symbol of authority. He could have
been anything from a person looking for friendly conversation to a mugger. It mattered
that the street was dark. It mattered that to stop a person on a dark street is
unusual. It mattered that the person stopped was black and the person doing the
stopping was a white person. It mattered more that he was a white person with
an attitude.
Think about what Zimmerman’s objective might have been. The
only way his action could have served a purpose was to find burglar tools or stolen
property on Trayvon. The only way this
could happen was to have searched him. How could it be that volunteer
neighborhood watch persons can have that level of authority that would allow
him to stop and search a stranger. He did not have that authority other than in
his own mind. He did have in his mind
the idea that he could harass a stranger. An unwritten a sense of racial superiority
gave him that authority. As false as it is, his parents, his friends, and his
community caused him to develop that sense of superiority. His State gave him the right to have a concealed
weapon. Trayvon Martin objected to being
stopped and pushed around by a stranger in the night—both I would and you would,
which means collectively, we would. Thus, the truth is that this 17-year old
kid was beating the hell out of a 28-year-old race baiting wan-a-be cop—a wimp
with a gun—who stopped him only to harass him. There can be no better reason
for gun control than that—guns don’t kill people but wimps with gun do. I like
to think justice would have been better served had there been no gun.
