"I feel it
was all God's plan," Zimmerman said in the interview on Fox news. What
do those words mean to a conservative? You know the kind of people who tune
into Sean Hannity and FOX news. It is not what you as a liberal might think,
which might be that Zimmerman is a morally righteous person. A religious person
you might find on his knees in a church somewhere paying homage to Jesus Christ
our Load, etc. No, that is not what they hear. What they interpret the words to
mean is that there is a natural or moral order in society. There are men and
women but the man is the head of the family with the wife and children, in that
order, given lower status. In the work place, there is the boss and there are
the workers. The boss is clearly in charge. In the army, there are generals and
there are privates. In politics, there
are the elected officials and the voters the elected official is in charge but
only if he (not he or she, but he) is a Republican. In society, there are
white, Protestants, of European extraction are in charge and then there are
others—Trayvon Martin, dressed in his hoodie, was one of the others. He did not
belong where he was without Mr. George
Zimmerman’s permission; without due deference to Mr. Zimmerman and the people
he represents. We evolved this way. No other way is biologically correct, in
fact, any other order is immoral.
To George and
his Fox news admirers, Trayvon was violating
this moral order. Zimmerman felt an obligation to keep moral order while most
Americans feel otherwise; at least I hope the 6 people on that jury think other
wise.
