CAN SOCIETY GAIN FROM TRAYVON MARTIN TRAGEDY?

I welcome the uneasiness, embarrassment and irritation people are feeling about the George Zimmerman trial in Florida. The many of us feel uneasy because the trial was unfair when the court did not convict a raciest for killing an innocent boy while others feel irritation that a trial was necessary  to protect an upstanding citizen, a “white knight” who was trying to defend the neighborhood from a suspected criminal. The government of Florida feels embarrassment because the people of the United States singled it out as a state where trail by jury is unjust. No one is really happy and that is good. If everyone were happy, nothing would change. Because of the egregious nature of the crime and because the raw nerve of racism in the plantation south has once again been exposed, I can only hope that some measure of correction will be made putting us, as a society, in a better position.  It reminds me of the part variance plays in evolution. From what happens by chance, by natural selection, we will select what ever it is that makes us better. It has worked for a couple millions of years so I expect it well work again.

Sanford, Florida will not issue hunting licenses for young black boys, George Zimmerman will not go unpunished, the pain of losing son will not go unnoticed; it is our job to see there is gain achieved from all this pain.
