This morning
Michael Steele treated us to a rare glimpse of the internal workings of the
Republican Party national apparatus: the RNC.
Steele was the ex-chairman of the RNC serving in that capacity from
January 2009 until January 2011 at which time his fellow party members replace
his with Reince Priebus. This morning I heard Steele say that Priebus, former
General Counsel for the Republican Party in Wisconsin, was giving him advice,
much of which he followed. The party was
in debt by about $24 million. Priebus ran against Steele for the position as chair
and won. Following his win, he increased the RNC bank account to over $50
million—a change of $74 million from donations.
What a happened
and why did it happen but more important what were the consequences of what
happened? Priebus was a modern day
Brutus. As an attorney, he talked Steele into following his advice, and then
used those decisions against Steele to win power in the RNC. Once in power he
sold the Party to the highest bidder—the rich donors such as David and Charles
Koch, the Walton family, etc. The Koch family
for example has their base in what some of us recognize as the extremely
radical John Birch Society, which was so radical no respectable politician
would associate with them. In addition, Republicans who previously shunned Ayn
Rand followers as being ridiculously radical, suddenly were openly praising her
as their idol: Alan Greenspan, Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, Ron Johnson, for example.
The national republican or conservative philosophy did not change but the
people did; a few rich people bought their way into power—they bought the RNC.
This story is
important to understand if we are ever to understand why our country has
changed. One person, Reince Priebus, use trickery to stab Michael Steele in the
back and gain power of the RNC. Once in power, Priebus sold out the entire reasonable
conservative party to a small radical group. This small group of people has
used their money and power to corrupt our political system using their money to
fund the dirty techniques developed by political operative Karl Rove into a system
of minority rule in Congress. It happened
in Wisconsin, the headquarters of John Birch Society, the home of Joe McCarthy,
the home of Rep. James Sensenbrenner, the state run by a rogue Gov. Scott Walker,
and the home of Paul Ryan. You don’t know Sensenbrenner. He is punk Representative
from Wisconsin that should have not power at all but he is the reason we do not
have a Director of the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). Which shows that Priebus,
and his evil character, matters right down to the smallest of details of the interworking
of our Government.
