In some ways, the stance the United States is taking in the
Syria conflict troubles me. It reminds me of the position taken by Wayne LaPierre
of the National Rifle Association (NRA), which under his leadership I consider
a terrorist organization. “The best way
to stop a bad guy with at gun is a good guy with a gun.” How can anyone think
that having more guns will stop violence? If everyone has a gun, we will be safer. It is
tantamount to saying the best way to stop traffic accidents is to have more
cars. It is human nature to have disputes. Suppose, two people are fighting can
you guess the outcome if both have guns, only one has a gun, and neither have a
gun.
Think of how stupid it is to have a guard with a gun in
schools; it is a well know fact that there are bad cops. Ask yourself why you
cannot attend legislative hearing or government session or even have a loaded
gun in a state and federal legislative building. Why can I not carry a loaded assault
weapon with me when I go to visit my congressional representative? Say my
representative is Tom Cobern (R-Co) who wrote the law that says I can carry a
gun into a federal park. Should I not be able to carry a gun in his office?
I will not and can do
these things because they do not make sense. Now, my government is telling me
it somehow makes sense to add more guns to the conflict in Syria. I think Obama
senses the futility of this and will do everything he can to find a peaceful
solution in spite of the hawks. However, he will do what he has to do even if
the Marlborough cowboys in the congress accuse him of doing something that they
never would accuse John Wayne of doing, which is riding sidesaddle.
