OPEN LETTER TO SEN. RICHARD BURR

I receive your letter concerning your stance on gun control and frankly, I was disappointed. Your argument was shallow to the point of being embarrassing for a person in high office. Gun control is not about Sandy Hook. Gun is about public safety. Why can I not go to a Senate Chambers with a loaded assault weapon? The answer should be obvious. It is because you do not believe in what you say. While, I feel the same way about walking down “my” streets in Raleigh as you do about “your” Senate Chamber. Ask yourself what will happen if two people get in an argument when a.) Both have a gun, b.) One has a gun and, and c.) Neither has a gun. I chose the latter as the best situation.

Raleigh newscaster, Larry Stogner (ABC News) looked shocked when confronted with the idea that arms manufacturers are marketing guns to children, and demanded to know the truth: Burr it is obvious that they are: small size, small caliber, pink color, insect names for the guns and ads showing children holding them. This is an indication of your bed fellows.

As a leader, you have to know that gun ownership serves no public good. You cannot cower behind an amendment that says we have a right to have guns as members of a well-regulated militia. A radical right wing Supreme Court deliberately misinterpreted the amendment because of the dreaded Citizens United Decision. Private gun ownership is a right; it is a privilege to regulate by elected officials—guess what; that is you. Don’t let down the American people the second time for the sake of a few radical survivalists.
