This morning on Steve Kornacki’s show on MSNBC, the host and
guests speculated about whether or not Ted Cruz is thinking of running for
president in 2016. He is an outspoken first term Senator from Texas. Almost everything
he says and does indicates he is far, far to the political right; just being Tea Party is
not enough for him. He is to the right of that party, which puts him on the
fringe of political lunacy. The Democratic operatives are flippantly saying “bring
him on” because they know the vast majority of the American people would reject
his politics. Of course, they are
correct in their assessment but they should be careful. Ted Cruz is more than
likely a cunning operative.
He is carefully laying the groundwork to bring himself to the
political front and center. He knows the media will flock to his door when he,
as a “red meat” United States Senator, says outlandish things even if the
things he says turns off main stream America. He is grabbing headlines for a
purpose. The fact that the media is bantering about his name as a candidate for
the presidency proves not only his strategy but also his purpose. I would
advise that we should wait until he starts to lie about how much of a compassionate
conservative he is before we start to worry. When the chameleon changes colors,
it indicates that first, he is serious about being a candidate and ready to cash
in on his lies about being radical and second, when he switches his positions,
it means he is trying to make himself sound electable. It would suggest he
thinks he has a chance his party would nominate him. He knows his lies about
how his extreme right wing views make him unelectable but he also knows that Republican
operatives have long memories but most voters have short memories. I look at a
whole series of Republican governors who lied them selves into office then turn
on the people of their states: Scott Walker in Wisconsin, McCrory in North Carolina,
Kasich in Ohio, Snyder in Michigan. For just two of many examples, they said on
the campaign trial they were going to do something to improve education; in
their mind defunding public schools and giving taxpayers money to private
schools improved education. They said
they were going to balance the budget but didn’t tell the people they were
going destroy public service unions and fire teachers and first responders to
save money. The importance of the examples is to call the readers attention to their
campaign technique—lie to be elected then they did their dirt.
I base much of this speculation concerning Ted Cruz on what Romney
did only he did it like an amateur. He switched from “making money at any cost”
to being a moderate and compromising Republican to become Gov. of liberal Massachusetts
then back to being a radical conservative in the Republican primaries to get the presidential nomination,
and then back to being moderate to be electable. He changed positions so often
that he was like a kaleidoscopic chameleon. His lying was so often and poorly
timed; therefore, blatantly obvious. Cruz is not that dumb.
Ted Cruz as president would be a disaster for America. I
believe he is truly a radical right wing Republican. I know Reagan and Bush were able to lie
themselves into the White house. Like the governors, they lied to make themselves
electable. The American people suffered because of these two guys and all those
governors. We ended up with trickle down economic, a shrinking middle class,
the equivalent of a plutocracy, and an economic disaster. Are we as a people dumb
enough to do it again, only this time with a readical Irish-English-Cuban Canadian
Texan named Ted Cruz?
