Inside world of blogging is a mysterious place. Sometime
ago, I was tooling long with a relatively low number of page views when suddenly
the number about doubled. I checked “Audience”, a selection under “Stats” on Google.Com
dashboard. I was shocked to see I had more page views from Russia than I had
from the United States that day. That trend continued for a few weeks with an associated
increase in total page views. I could see no outstanding change in “Traffic
Sources”, also a selection under the Google Stats program, which allowed me to see the generic URL's of face page viewers. Like happened with Russia, I still have a small
residue of page views from Russia. The same thing happened again this time it
was Germany. Again, the increase persisted for several weeks with a lingering
residue of page views. Just yesterday, again, I had a sudden increase in page
views but this time the rush was or at least appeared to be from China.
The obvious question is, “What is going on?” Is it really viewers in Russia, Germany, and China or is it some hacker in the United States used a phony
ISP address? Is it some sort of pirate? Are they legitimate hits? Does it have something to do with some
type of international crawler? In addition to the international pattern of hits, I have one post that is huge in numbers of page
views; the number of views for this Nov 7, 2012 post (Abortion Debate Folly) is
higher than any other post that seems to be somehow associated with the international
shifts. In addition, I have something like 35 comments made on that one post. The
comments seemed rational and not just filled with a bunch of dirty words. A
pro-abortion ad appears under that post so Adsense seems to be benefiting from the increase
in page views but I do not see any increase in revenue from that sources.
Something is wrong. Can anyone tell me what it might be?
