BAIT AND SWITCH POLITICS

One of the sub themes of this blog site has been that Republican politicians indicated in their campaigns the will do very little or will only do things that will help all the people but once elected they take a radical right-wing stance on everything. In other words, the people elect them under false pretenses. The tragedy is that the voters seem to forget what they did the last time they were in power.  The lead stories on this morning’s TV made the point in capital letters. There were two issues used as bait to attract attention to the righteousness of the Republican Party and the evilness of the Democratic Party: Benghazi and IRS Targeting of 501 C groups. Let me explain.

A merchant advertizes a beautiful toaster for sale at half price. People flock to the store to take advantage of the offer. There is “the” toaster on display setting out of reach, high on the shelf, in the store where everyone can see it. When the customer asked to buy that toaster, he or she is told that there are none left; it was such a good deal that it was such a good deal they were quickly sold out. The customer indicated he wants to buy the one on the shelf but the clerk tells the costumer that it is not for sale; it is for display purposes only. The customer explains, using solid logic that if they don’t have any toasters to sell there is not purpose in having a display. The clerks responds by saying the toaster is too high on the shelf—it is just out of reach. However, toasters of obviously inferior quality are setting all over the place; they are over priced and not safe to use. The clerk agrees that it is not safe but points out the low price and the guarantee—if you burn down your house because of the toaster, you can bring it back and they will happily refund your money back.

Benghazi and the IRS targeting 501c’s, like the toaster, is the bait. What they are selling is a failed Republican agenda that is sure to burn down your house.  In the past, enough voters (customers) fell for similar swindles that they elected Republicans to office. Ask yourself, if what I write in this blog is true and the Republican agenda is a failed agenda, why does the house not fall? Why do we still have a two party democracy and not a plutocracy?  The answer is that it is burning brightly but you do not see it but you will.

There is a startling graph often shown on liberal TV commentary show but never seen on FOX or on Joe Scarborough’s Morning Joe. On the “Y” axis are the dollars involved while on the “X” axis are years. The years start with Ronald Reagan presidency (1981-1989) and end with the current year. The creators of the graph labeled one line as corporate profits and the other as wages. Wages fall steadily and the profits increase steadily for over 30 years. The divergence is obvious as is the implication. Two important things stand out about this graph. The first point is that the data is accurate—there is no skullduggery attempted or intended. It is an honest rendition of the facts. The second thing is there is very little fluctuation; the regression lines are essentially straight.  The message is that even the least sophisticated observer can extrapolate the lines indicating decreasing wages and the increasing profits over time. We clearly know where we are headed.

With Benghazi and the IRS, the Republican Party is playing an open and cheap form of bait and switch: the bait is to attract voters to their cause without saying what there true cause is. You wouldn’t buy a “pig in a poke” but you will vote for a Republican.  They have been using the same type scheme on you for years and you have fallen for it time after time; this is indicated by the lack of variation in the line. If you fall for the scheme again, your house will continue to burn, which will be a Charles Dickens’ type social structure with you living in the ashes at the bottom—you will live in a plutocracy.
Give this post a 1+, the forward it to your favorite Republican.
