Chuck Todd shamed himself this morning in his MSNBC show. He
flogged Obama with a long drawn out dialogue about how Obama failed to keep his
promise to close Guantanamo. He buried the fact that the Republican congress
kept Guantanamo open even after the President signed an executive order to
close the prison.
Guantanamo blights our moral standards and on our system of
justice. There is no justification to keep it open nor is there a justification
for military tribunals. The Republican failed to compromise on the “dark prison
issue” and by defunding the transfer costs of prisoners, and the expense of opening
a prison in the Untied States, but worst of all by not supporting fair trials
for the prisoners. They did all of this not because they believed in what they
were doing but because they wanted to blame the president for “breaking a
promise”. Now the Chuck Todd, with a straight face, joins them by standing
before his audience and blaming the President for breaking his promise.
The Republicans do not approve executive appointments like in
the ATF, do not fund watchdog groups like the consumer protections agencies,
and do not approve the appointment of federal judges. They discredit their mouthpieces
like Chuck Todd, who is quick to say, “The President is breaking his promise”. Rodger Ailes bases his entire news operation
on the premise that if a TV host lies about Obama enough, some people will
start to believe them. The problem is that the people who listen to FOX news
listen only that is he only place they really believe their lies so one more
lie more or less doesn’t matter. Chuck
Todd is different; he is a sleeper; his demeanor lulls some people into believing
he is nonpartisan. He is on MSNBC, a TV channel straightforward people
watch, so I was surprised that he would so shamefully lower himself to Fox News
standards, which is really the bottom.
