Was the SEQUESTER a good idea? Republicans are blaming Democrats
and Democrats are blaming Republicans. Both are blaming President Obama. Under these circumstances, it is difficult to gain
and understanding of the situation unless we do the obvious thing, which is to
look at examine what actually happened. The Congress was at an impasse over the
budget so the president suggested a negotiating position; there were two plans
on the table, plan “A” and plan “B”. Congress would do neither. The president
proposed something that they all could agree on, a plan “C”. The catch was that
plan “C” was so intentionally asinine that both sides would agree it was bad
and easily reject it. Plan “C” was the “Sequester”.
In negotiating, one has to find something both sides agree
on. The president did this; he proposed something so outlandish they could safely
come together in disagreement. Both
Democrats and Republicans, like the President, saw the Sequester as bad they
agreed on a much watered down plan that would avoid going over the fiscal
cliff. Avoiding the fiscal cliff with out destroying social programs was a great
victory for Obama. What the President did not count on was that he was dealing
with Republican ideologues, people who
put Party over country. This is a serious charge so I feel obligated to put
names on the congressional representatives I am talking about so the people in
their districts can know who they are: Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, Jon Johnson,
Marsh Blackburn, Michelle Bachman, Jim DeMint (resigned), and James Sensenbrenner, to name a few. They
were so incensed when they realized they had failed in their attempt to ruin
all social programs that they decided to crash the entire economic system of
the country and try to blame Obama for it. They are willing to trash the economic
well being of the United States of America over their hate for Social Security,
Medicare, food stamps, Obamacare, etc that they, like a Vietnam village, they
are willing to destroy it, to protect their tax haven for the rich. That is what the economic elite do. They are
taking us over the cliff and Democrats cannot do anything about it. Remember, if
you voted for them, you cannot take your votes back!
