This morning Tom Colburn (R-Oklahoma) on Morning Joe (MSNBC) declared that Obama’s Inauguration speech “failed to bring the country together”. Scarborough’s vigorous head nodding signaled his enthusiastic agreement. What it signaled to me was the tired old Republican two-step attack.
Step one is to create a problem that only they can solve and then attack the target for not solving it. The president has repeatedly invited the Republican leadership to the White House both socially and for working meetings. Republicans refused to attend. He offered compromises but they flat out rejected them—their way or the highway. They created a problem the President could not solve. That was step one.
Step two, because of the courtesy of Joe Scarborough, criticized the President on national Television for not solving the problem only they can solve.
I referred to this above as though it is standard operating procedure for Republican. This I believe. A book length story* reduced to an antidote will explain why I believe as I do. In my fight as a liberal professor with College administrations many years ago, a conservative minded group created problems for the liberal minded dean only they could solve and then criticized him severely for not solving the problems. Why do they do this; because it works; they took over administration of the college and destroyed the deans career in the process and relegated the college to second-class status as a teaching institution.
