What does liberty really mean? The question came to mind
when I heard Mitt Romney’s inane comments about Obama’s thoughtful response to
the Embassy attack in Benghazi, Libya.
It is complex and circuitous but it seems that Egypt and Libya are free and our
government had something to do with making them free. Liberty or freedom means that these countries
have the right to decide what their policy will be, who they will do business
with, and what countries they will make their allies. What is wrong with that?
What is wrong with it is that they are free to do as they want and not as the
United States tells them to do. This
seems to be a conservative tendency; if I can control you, you can be my
friend. I have news for Romney; if you,
Jim DeMint, and Bill Krystal want to decry the fact that President Obama knew Libya
is a free nation and acted accordingly, you and the people you would like to be
your followers should be prepared to tell the truth about why you think what he
did was to apologize to anyone for anything.
