OBAMA'S STORY: RESPONSIBILITY VS. AUTHORITY

One time during my long life, I found myself in a position where I had the responsibility of running an academic program and my boss held me accountable by for the operation of a high volume medical laboratory. It was a disastrous experience for one obvious reason; I had the responsibility but not the authority over a key individual in the operation of the laboratory. I see Obama as being in the exact same position: of course running an academic program is nowhere near equivalent to running a country but the principle is the same. Obama is responsible for the economy of the United States of America but the House of Representatives is responsible for the financial affairs of the country. Under ordinary circumstances harmony results when the objective of both elements and parties is the same. My objective was to use laboratory results to teach laboratory medicine to the entire student body, which consisted of 300 students. The person responsible for the laboratory and her boss were there to run the laboratory as a commercial enterprise. Obama is responsible to all of the people for running the country. The House of Representatives has assumed the responsibility to make money for a small group of special interest. I lost, big time! My little story is the basis for my book, University Industrial Complex: Erosion of Higher Undergraduate Education. We do not know if Obama will win or lose because his story has yet to be written.
