KOCH'S BUYING VERSUS TRUMP BEING THE GOVERNMENT

The fossil fuel industry is running the government in this country. The “industry” exists as a nebulous force that has finally gained the power to direct the nation’s wealth into their bottom line. Unlike with the trusts in the early parts of the 20oth century, we don’t know who they are by name. No one sees them, but we often see their influence in strange ways. Inevitably, they are responsible when something happens that makes no sense. The climate change deniers are glaring examples. The same logic applies when the government does or does not do something that makes sense. We think of David and Charles Koch, for example, but are they the problem? They buy political influence by buying votes of politicians, who can directly help them in their industries, which as indicated is often fossil fuel based. The real problem is when the billionaire him or herself is the politician, which is different and is what makes the “Citizens United Decision” the most dangerous, which is the point of this blog post. Of course, they take care of the industry that made them rich, but they do more. What is most dangerous to the country is when they represent their individual political philosophy as being the will of the people. That difference moves them from having influence in government to being the government. Of course, Donald Trump, with his ten billion dollars and his xenophobia, is the immediate and glaring example.
