GOP AND RACE

Several political lies will not go away. Everyone and I mean everyone knows the truth, yet these lies persist. Two of the biggest of these lies are that the Democrats are the racist and the Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, freed the slaves. Republican claim Lincoln as a cover for their obvious current racism. Of course, there are many other lies such as Jeb Bush is a compassionate conservative when there is no such thing as a compassionate conservative. The word is an oxymoron. Another common lie is that conservatives care about individual rights, when they obvious do not. As evidence for that, we have their position on voter rights suppression, gerrymandering to the absurd extreme, and failure to pass legislation that supports public opinion among other things. In 1964, President Lyndon Johnson signed the civil rights act. With that signature, the Plantation South turned conservative. All the racist moved into the Republican Party. Clever but unprincipled political operative such as Karl Rove exploited this as the “southern strategy”. They appealed to the regional, racial tensions. Only recently, now, 50 years later are we seeing the first signs of cracks in their united front, this in spite of the corrupt Supreme Court. In spite of this history, the most extreme right-wing members of the court were born in the northern reaches of the east coast. Justice Alito was born in New Jersey, as was Scalia. Chief Justice Roberts was born in New York. Thomas, a black man, was one exception because he was born in Georgia. Abraham Lincoln did sign the Emancipation Proclamation, but he did this as a political maneuver. The political turmoil at the time bordered on the unbelievable, which makes it hard in the 21st century to understand his true beliefs. My point is that the Republican Party has a racist agenda. If you support them, you are a racist. As I published in another blog post, I feel this is a bad thing but in North Carolina, the land of Jessie Helms, being a racist is a vote getting stance. Look at the state laws and the political positions of our elected representatives. One of our head election commissioners openly said he thinks, “We ought to send ‘them’ back to where they came from.” Nevertheless, in my eyes and spite of your lies, if you are a Republican, you are a racist.
