The President is going to give his State of the Union address tomorrow night. All indications are that he will continue what he has been doing for that past month; saying what he really thinks. If you are one of those, who think the pressure of Congress does not affect the presidency, you should take notice. Obama’s popularity is climbing rapidly over the past months or so. The obvious question is why is this? He is still the president that has not changed. What has changes is that the few people who voted “foolishly” voted in a Republican majority in both houses of Congress. The rising popularity of the President is my proof of that—let me explain the connection.
The President is a liberal and wants to do things to help the American people but the House of Representatives, controlled by Republicans, who held the purse strings of government felt the only way to help the people was to starve government by cutting taxes and cutting government spending to pay off the national deficit. This solution is exactly what the previous Republican administration had done to create the deficit; cut taxes to make people happy but cut government spending to make them unhappy—obviously, it didn’t work then and it will not work now. The president will point that out by proposing tax increases on the very rich to pay for things people want.
Couple this with the realization that our president does not have to seek reelection; thus, freed from the constraints of politic, which is Congressional pressure. The lesson in all of this is that Congress does not represent the American People; it represents only the few people who vote. These voters who elected Congress follow the radical right wing agenda, and as a result hate government so much they will go to the polls not matter what. Most polls dealing with Presidential popularity deal with all people, not just those who vote. If pollsters only asked people who actually voted, the results would be exactly the way Congress votes. Votes count but “not voting” counts just as much if not more.
The other day (1/9/15) I posted a blog on this blogspot about bait and switch politics, in which I pointed out that older white men in North Carolina gave us U.S. Senator +Thom Tillis, probably the most radical conservative congressman elected this November; their vote had little to do with the economics.

Even though Republicans control Congress, circumstances have freed the President to tell us what he really wants and thinks. The President wants to help the people and the people are responding. This is revealing. The pollsters have uncovered the ugly truth about American Democracy; political operatives have corrupted our government. We no longer elect people who represent us. Poll after poll tells on issue after issue that 70% to 80% of the people what one thing and Congress votes the opposite way. President Barrack Obama, the greatest president we have ever had. The reason I say this is that he wants what 70% to 80% of the people want; I predict his approval rating will reach that level after this State of the Union address. Sadly, what he wants will not be done; after all we have a Congress filled with Thom Tillis’s.
