The value of information obtained from torture is zero. If a person being beaten or water boarded or deprived of sleep, or whatever tells his tormentors anything it means nothing. Everyone knows hurting people is bad regardless of the reason—it is wrong. Although, superfluous, any “after the fact” claim that torture provided information that lead to the killing of Osama bin Laden is meaningless. The logic involved is simple; it is the same as predicting the winner of a horse race after the race is over.
I can review the transcript of utterances made during the torture session and pick a remark that in a rare case proved to be true just as I can look at a list of horses to find the name of the winner. The difference should be obvious. The only time I can be wrong is if the name of the winning horse is not on the list, which by definition often happens in torturing innocent people or questioning people who lie even when in pain or because they are in pain but can never happen in a horse race run in front of a crowd.
As Feinstein has pointed out, there is nothing about the whole exercise of torture is that is right—absolutely nothing! Torture is a failed exercise.
