I do not understand! The
people elected representatives of a political party that wants to destroy the
government; there is too much government. Close the Department of Education.
Get rid of the Environmental Protection Agency. We do not want Social Security.
We do not want Affordable Health Care, we want the government “out of our lives”,
they cry. The right wing newspapers, talk radio and TV contributors constantly
complain that they individuals and do not want socialism. That being the said,
the Republican controlled congress are going on the news programs everyday
saying they do not want to shut down the
government because that would defund the Department of Education, the Environmental
protection agency, Social Security, and the Affordable Care Act. Either they
want the government or they don’t: they cannot have it both way. They want Socialism
or they don’t; they have to make up their minds. I think the problem is the
lack of knowledge about how the government works because they do not want to
know how it works. They can know the rules of football and basketball, and know
every member of their favorite sports team for the past 100 years but cannot recognize
a picture of our Vice President or even our President, let alone know what
social-capitalism is.
Clearly, our Constitution formed a capital-socialistic government;
that is what the two founding principles of our government are all about; “all men
are crated equally” and “one-man one-vote”. In fact, “one-man one vote” means
we, as individuals, can decide how we are governed. Not only do individuals have
an equal say in how they are governed, they can decide if they want to be
involved in government; it is an ingenious system and should appreciate it. No
one has been able to improve on that for 238 years, although we all try; everyday
we try. Each person wants to have an advantage. Each group bound by some common
bond wants to have an advantage over every other group in complicated and
complex ways, thus tears at the very fabric of our government. The very primitive
or bestial principle of the strong over weak individuals morphed into
xenophobic such as tribe verses tribe and white people over black people.
Eventually, religion entered the picture leading to religious sects which
became more refined as Abrahamic religion over Islamic religion, Leadership
took the form of tribal chiefs, military leaders, then royalty and eventually politics
entered the picture, for example Democrats over Republicans. Economic power, if
not the primary force, hovered menacingly in the background as it does now.
The greatest current challenge to our social-capitalistic democracy
is plutocracy. There is evidence that the rich are winning and we are returning
to individualism. The corruption of the Supreme Court, the disconnect between populism
and decision making in Washington greatly favors corporations, and the
influence of rich people over government decisions is obvious at all levels. With
the Citizens United decision, the influence of our individual votes is no
longer equal.
I listen to Rand Paul and read the libertarian press, such
as +Bob Livingston’s, Personal Liberty Digest.
What they are saying and the articles are degusting and shocking but the comments
are even more shocking because the clearly show the lack of understand a
growing number of people have of government. Even at the simplest level of
understand there is no understanding. The Nov. 4th election proved
that is the case. Looking at the conflict over, “to shut down the government” or
“not shut down the government” by the very same people, not two different
groups of people but the very same people—how else but through a lack of understanding
of how our government actually works can anyone explain the confusion. Look at
the liberal “we love government” verses the conservative “we hate government” debate
for more of the same nonsense. Listen to
Rand Paul talk he thinks he can live like a hermit in downtown New York City. What is shocking is the he has followers—go
figure.
