DEBATE BLOCKED BY INTERNET THREAT

The debate I was having on #Disqus on #Personal Liberty just getting good when I received a message via e-mail warning me, “Your connection is not private. Attackers might be trying to steal your information from personalliberty.com, etc”. In order to contact Personal Liberty, I was given a fake server site to contact but Google advised me not o contact them. This really bothers me. First, it has happened before. Second, I have been making responses repeatedly therefore was using the Personal Liberty address effectively. Suddenly, after presenting my “very liberal” ideas, an unknown person or persons cut off my access to this site abruptly—perhaps I am overly suspicious but I suspect malfeasance.

The debate ranged from guns to my concern about the effect of Supreme Court’s Citizen United decision on Democracy but expanded exponentially. The important thing for me was that some responders were sincerely debating the issues as evidenced by the erudite level of what they said. In addition, they were not reduced to name-calling; of course, I do not have to be told I am an idiot. To read high caliber comments was a real pleasure after putting up with all the bottom feeders; people who usually make comments with hate, in monosyllabic words—often vile, and devoid of logic. For what it is worth, these people identified themselves as +HoraceDebussyJones, +D.C.J., +PatTaylor, and +pete0097. My point in naming them is to invite them to visit my web site with the idea of having them to comment (to criticize) my blogs post on firetree pub.blogspot .com. I usually respond to each civil comment. This post could be looked at as—spam—me trying to attract readers to my web site, which is true, but it is the debate I am interested in.

For example, I made the statement that Democratic campaigns were supported by donations of $3 to $5 dollars. One of the detractors pointed out that Obama had received big money donations as well.  I suggested corporations are not people and used the example of why they are not by saying it might be difficult to imprison corporations because we would not be able to identify whom to put in prison. The response named a number of very rich democrats to which I would have responded by saying that it was the corporate title they used to circumvent election laws by give unlimited amounts of money anomalously. In addition, I would point out that “one-man one-vote” refers to equality among men; each person, rich or poor, black or white, Republican or Democrat has equal influence on who runs our country—the Supreme Court trashed that concept. There are so many issues to debate, it is a shame to find we are hindered by the internet from engaging in heated but civil debate.
