It is so difficult to find some one to engage in reasonable
debate. Although almost anything can be debated, however, religion is one thing
that is not debatable; you either believe or you don’t; on the other hand,
politics should be a number one subject of debate. I find it strange that most
political debates are based on nonsense. For example;
I
hate Obama. Why do you hate Obama? I hate him because he is a democrat. Why do
you hate Democrats? I hate Democrats because they are not Republicans, etc.
Or, the arguments are based on the Glenn Beck type logic. For
example:
Obama
is going to take you guns away. What evidence do you have that he wants to take
your guns away? I just know that is what he wants, which is why he has the army
and the police. Patriots need assault weapons to fight the government because they
have assault weapon, etc.
The other day on Facebook, several people advanced the basis
of a good argument in the form of a suggestion that we should ban burkas. I
wrote a piece arguing that this as a sign of hate for ISIS is misplaced, will
do no good, and probably would have the opposite affect. It generated only one
comment, which was made by a student from the South of Mexico, which what it
was an interesting perspective. A friend suggest that Obama lied when he said (lied)
if you like your health care insurance policy you can keep it. I wrote a rebuttal
to that. Which receive zero responses: no likes, and no shares (which show agreement), nothing. My
blog site has 77,000 page views and I post them on face book so I know people read
these things but nothing, zero. As I
said, I know people read these things so it seems like a one sided debate. Why?
Why? Why?
