SCARBOROUGH SQUIRMS

As usual, I tuned into +Morning Joe +(MSNBC) for my daily does of right wing poison. My surprise was that I enjoyed watching Joe Scarborough squirm in his chair during an interview with French Ambassador to the United States, +GĂ©rard Araud. Just before the Ambassador came on, Joe held up a newspaper headline proclaiming that Russia’s Putin accused France of bowing to U. S. pressure; the news reference was to France delaying the sale and delivery of a war ship of over 500 feet length to Russia.  What was making Joe squirm was that he had just declared that Obama was doing nothing; he has no strategy; and is weak and all other right-wing propaganda. Now, the French Ambassador was setting eye-to-eye with him claiming France was “leading in the fight” to preserve Ukrainian independence. Ambassador Araud said, “We” decided not to sell the warship to France”, implying in Charles DeGualle fashion that his country is “the” world leader, which everyone recognizes it is not. No conservative alive who believe the United States is not “the undisputed” world leader, that would violate their sense of “moral order”. This put my “friend” Scarborough in a bind; he hates the idea that Obama’s hard work paid off in Europe and caused France to decide not to sell the warship to Russia. At the same time, he hates the idea the haughty Ambassador saying the United States is playing a secondary role to France. Everyone knows there is strong internal economic pressure in France to sell the warship but Obama was able to influence that country to do otherwise—that is leadership. The same is happening in other European countries; for example, Germany has concerns about energy and Britain has concern about banking. Scarborough just cannot admit that the newspaper headline just shown makes it clear that Obama’s leadership is showing making us a world leader at the same time, as he abhors French arrogance.
