SHOCK DOCTRINE BENEFIT OF FURGGUSON

There seems to be a conflict in the minds of some people; why is it so wrong for police to confront protestors in Ferguson, Mo with armored vehicles designed for land mines with machine gunners setting on top aiming their weapons at sign carrying protestors and it is so right to allow anyone who wants to own military assault weapons. The shocking scene of assault weapon carrying police wearing camouflage and jackboots firing tear gas at crowds of people was so alien to American cities that it caused people to consider that we have to do something. This is exactly what Naomi Klein described as happens in her excellent and edifying book, Shock Doctrine. The strange twist in the current Ferguson story is that what people are proposing is something to help people verses doing things to harm people; in other words, they are turning the right wing weapon on the right wing.

I am delighted to think punks who think they look brave and tough in pictures taken of them selves pointing oversized assault rifles off into space. Finally, they have the opportunity to see the same stupid looks on the faces of those “pseudo” military toughs toting assault weapons who were setting behind machine guns on the roofs of armored vehicles confronting unarmed people. The same stupid look we see on the faces of heavily armed people on the boarders with Mexico confronting 8-year old children. I am reminded of the stupid look on the face of their baseball cap-wearing idol, Ronald Reagan at the wheel of the USS Missouri after spending untold millions of tax payers dollar rehabilitating it; a battle ship is a useless weapon in the modern world of missile warfare. Did he not realize that usually a low-level sailor is the helmsman, the person who actually steers the ship?
