A CONSERVATIVE ON FACEBOOK

Following the instructions of friends, I just successfully blocked a person from posting on my face Bookpage. I don’t recall how this person gained friendship status with me; we only had one mutual friend. I do from time to time enjoy reading how conservatives justify their political positions, so it could have been that I invited him for that reason but go badly fooled. Regardless, what he was doing was posting pictures and comments from extreme right wing sources. Almost every post he made was based on hate, hate, hate or was what I call a “trap post”. He never accompanied his posts with a reason for the hate or did he back his statements up with anything of substance; it seemed to be just hate for the sake of hate. He hates President Obama, Hillary Clinton, or Immigrants criminals, black people, Arabs, and especially hates our government. On the other hand, he had posts that indicated he loved guns, or believed there was massive voter fraud, or that same sex marriage was criminal, or that abortion was murder, or the death penalty should be used more, etc.

In addition to being based on hate, whoever designed the posts he was copying, designed them to trap a person into agreeing with the premise of the post. For example, like if you think congress should impeach President Obama or like if “we” should put Nancy Pelosi in jail or is crazy, etc—the vote count could only be 100% in agreement with the sentiment expressed in the post.

In stark contrast to the hate, he would post pictures of his grand daughters on his lap or make loving comments about other family members. From time to time, he would post quotes from the Bible or copy verses, which I find as a strange mix with all of his hate. Even though his anti union sentiment was evident by his hatred for unions, in his pictures he appeared to be a normal retired working class, family oriented person; in other words, he had reason not to want to pay high taxes and no reason not to want public schools or did he appear to be a wide eyed raving maniac. He was probably living a normal life on social security and dependent on Medicare. He certainly was not a member of the economic elite that is in the upper 1%.

The more I though about blocking him the more I realized that he really represented the startling success the plutocracy, represented by the Koch brothers, have achieved in driving our democracy into the dirt for their own nefarious purposes, which is to establish an economic dictatorship. The last 30-years have seen a downward turn in people’s attitude about our government; only a small percentage of us go to the polls, which along with gerrymandering and voter suppression allows a bare minority to control our country; those stimulate by hate. This man hates the government and everything it stands for; he hates the very thing that built this country, allowed him and his family to be educated, and allowed him to succeed. “We the people” made this the richest country in the world; he is one of us, which makes it so hard to understand why he wants to damage all of that. Yet, his hate filled self is the one who will go to the polls and vote against his own interest.
