TAXES TO GO UP IN NORTH CAROLINA

Surprise, surprise, Governor Pat McCrory and his Transportation Secretary Tony Tata are in a bind. The Republican disaster that hit our state in the form of Tom Tillis and Phil Berger but especially Pat McCrory is stating to become a reality. They cut taxes on industries and raised taxes on the people. Now they suddenly realize that they do not have the money needed to repair and build highways that industries need to operate. Of course, everyone knows, at least if they are Republicans, that industries are “built by entrepreneurs” called job creators who can stand on their own two feet. All of a sudden, Elizabeth Warren and President Obama’s reminder that industries need school to educate workers and highways to receive and deliver products means something.

Industry got their free ride from McCrory and the legislature, now they the greedy little mites are demanding more. This move was totally predictable; they want new highways. How are they going to get them? They will get them by raising taxes on the people of North Carolina, again. McCrory and the legislature just shifted the tax burden from the progressive income tax to the non-progressive sales tax. They have already taken step one which is to shift the tax burden away for industries and are ready for step two, which is to shift it to the workers—last time I look, that was you and me.

Our State is in deep trouble; the Duke Energy employee we have as head of government, Pat McCrory, has corrupted everything but most pointedly, he has trashed the things we treasure the most: our living standard, our children’s future, and our quality of life in exchange for corporate profits. As I keep asking, are you sorry you voted Republican, or better yet, have you figured how to take back you vote. I guess you are too busy listening to Karl Rove’s trash on TV to notice the State infrastructure structure is falling down around you or are you too busy listening to Glenn Beck tell you to hate Obamacare to realize that we live in as State that has not joined in Medicare expansion. May be you are one of the happy ones that you got a plate of cookies delivered by a caring governor when you went to talk about the needs of women in what used to be your State.
