GOP AND THE DIRTY POLITICS ENGIMA

One of the first things a rational person does when he or she is trying to solve a problem is to work to try to understand the problem. You can do research of the literature or can ask questions of those who might know, especially those directly involved. For years, I have been trying to solve the problem of why people vote the way they do; perhaps explain would be a better choice of word. I find serious and obvious conflicts in the reason they give. For example, I am acquainted with a number of people who view politicians as being crooked.

The evidence that politicians are crooked is that abundant evidence exists in the public record that these people do not vote the way the people who they represent want them to vote. I have repeatedly cited instance of this on this blog site: subsidies to oil companies, gun control, raise taxes on the rich, job creating legislation, increase in minimum wage, etc. These issues have two things in common they are all opposed by corporations. In addition, all these issues have popular support ranging around 70 and 80% but never pass congress.

Examine the voting records and invariable one hundred percent of Republicans vote against these things and with just enough Democrats to prevent passage. Another invariable is that after clerk counts the votes and the measure failed, the complaints in the media are that it failed because of Democrats. To make matters worse, the Democrats blame these members of their own party and ignore the part played by “all” the Republicans; thus, they Democrats pile on with the Republicans to prevent the re-election of their own party members. In other word, being a Republican is wonderful like being Jesus, “no matter what you do, it is the right thing”.

I look at this and wonder what twist of mind makes it is this way. The answer seems to be that corporations, under the guise of Republicans, are in control of the message, which begs the question, “Why are corporations in control of our government?” The same answer as to why Republicans and “some” Democrats vote against the people they serve applies; they politicians vote the way they do because corporations pay them to vote that way. This charge is difficult to prove because of convoluted bookkeeping and difficulties in following the money, for example, a threat of a primary challenge and campaign contributions hidden by a PAC in exchange for a vote. Under those circumstances, again like Jesus, all the money to buy the senators and the media is magically like manna, from heaven. Not one Republican I know believes corporations buying Republican politicians vote is crooked politics and condemns the practice—not one. Of course, their standards suddenly change when a Democrat is involved. Interestingly, when you ask those who complain about crooked politics the most who they voted for; although the answer should be obvious, the answer that they voted for Republicans; some try to cover up their shame by claiming they are “independent” or “libertarian”. However, they voted for all Republicans.

So there is no mistake about who I am accusing and of what I am accusing them; Republicans know that elected Republicans do not represent the people who elected them (except maybe in Texas), which means they are “bought a paid for” by American corporations. They know that Republican corporate money bought Democrats as well. For them, that makes all politicians “dirty”. The enigma I cannot figure out; Republicans don’t like corporations buying politicians but they vote for politicians corporations bought.
