TEA PARTY STRATGEY REVEALED

During the battle in Washington over the sequestration, I missed a big point. As Bernstein and Woodward said in their famous book Deep Throat, if you want to know the truth, “follow the money”.  Now with the government shut down, I was puzzled with the idea that big money controls Washington politicians. Everyone accepts that congressional representatives are “bought and paid for”. In a post on this blog site not so long ago, I mentioned that there seemed to be a “disconnect” between big business and politicians allowing the government shut down leading to a government default.  We all seem to think big business controls politicians with campaign donors but if that was the case, why do they not act to prevents that from happening. We do not know what went on behind closed doors but judging from the fact that the sequestration happened; they did nothing. They lost big time, especially defense contactors but so did poor people.  Big business will again lose billions if not trillions if the government defaults. Why don’t the people who will be hurt pick up the phone and tell Ted Cruz, Mile Lee, and Jim DeMint to stop the fooling around. My guess is that they did but the Tea party members told them go to hell and my hope is that this post explains why. If we understand it, maybe we can do something about it.

The answer to that there is something more powerful than money. However, we intuitively sense that the only thing better than a big pile of money is a bigger pile of money. The radical right wing, we commonly referred to as the Tea Party, found something that costs less money but is more powerful. That is the power to manipulate elections by controlling the state and local Republican Party organizations, thus controlling the political beliefs of the candidates; holding elections at times when the turnout will be small, thus increasing the influence of radicals by controlling turnout. Unscrupulous political operatives use a “threat of a primary challenge” as a menace to elected politicians. The corrupted Supreme Court of the Untied States greased the skids for all of this to happen with their Citizens Unite decision. Extreme radicals such as David and Charles Koch are the ones who control the political organization used as a cover for the operatives: Heritage Foundations, etc. In one sense, it is a battle of the rich against the rich but the Koch brothers have more power. They can control elections like a street gang collecting protection money; you pay up or they will trash your store only in this case, it is, you vote the way we want you to vote or we will trash your political career.

We were warned before the current debt-ceiling crisis, but we did not heed the warning. The sequestration was a situation where the “standard” politicians in the spirit of forcing a compromise during a crisis they created, politicians decided they would put forward ridiculous sized cuts to program Republicans favored as well as equally ridiculous sized cuts to program Democrats favored. The thinking was that only a crazy person would agree to such cuts; therefore, both rational conservatives and rational Democrats would work had to shape a compromise; they didn’t because the Tea Party (crazies) would not allow that to happen. Now, with their new  “default on our debt crisis”, we are saying no rational politician would allow the country to default on the debt just as they said no rational politician would allow sequestration to happen, but it did. If it doesn't happen it is not because the Tea Party did not want it to happen.

From time to time, you hear some TV commentator say they do not know what the end plan of the Tea Party is. The sad truth is that the Tea party wants to destroy our government, in their words, “for the good of the country”. As I said, most reasonable people do not feel that is rational.
